Evaluation of Residual Root Canal Sealer Removal Efficacy of Different Irrigation Activation Techniques by Confocal Laser Microscopy Analysis

Objective: The purpose of this study was to use confocal laser microscopy analysis evaluate the effectiveness conventional needle irrigation (CNI), EndoActivator (EA), and EDDY during endodontic retreatment.
 Methods: This included 45 maxillary incisor teeth with a single root canal. Root canals were prepared ProTaper Universal files (Dentsply Sirona, Ballaigues, Switzerland) obturated labeled sealer mixed 0.1% Rhodamine B gutta percha according cone techniques. Initial canal filling material removed using Retreatment F4 files. Teeth randomly divided into 3 groups (n = 15) depending on activation technique: CNI, EA (Dentsply, Tulsa Dental Specialties, Tulsa, OK), (VDW, Munich, Germany). Confocal used penetration area, depth, percentage residual in apical, middle, coronal sections after activation.
 Results: In all sections, group had lower area than CNI (P< .05). comparison section, apical section group, depth higher at middle .05), it section.
 Conclusion: Within limitations study, none systems tested could completely remove sealer. However, lowest seen EDDY.
